What is Jano?

Jano is the new online platform that offers
stories from history that are of interest to
families in India and the South Asian
diaspora.

Why the focus
on history?

Because history is full of great stories! Without history
it is difficult to know who one is or where one is headed.
The past profoundly affects our present and our future.
Through historical knowledge Jano hopes to strengthen
self-identity, self-awareness and a sense of uniqueness
among Indians.

What does every issue
of Jano offer?

Every news event, person and cultural meme
has a rich backstory which Jano unearths.
Every issue includes an in-depth
exploration of a high interest topic, enriched
with photos, videos, first-hand accounts
primary sources, maps and cartoons.

What topics will be
covered by Jano?

We dig through the past and uncover the relatively unknown
stories that would interest you. We bring you stories from the
Indian experience in America, the Indian contribution to the
two world wars, Indian scientific achievements, colonial writings
on India, Indian influences on popular science fiction and much
more.

Who is the creator
of Jano?

Jano is conceived, written, designed and
produced by alumni of the Harvard
Graduate School of Education as well as
experts in children's media.
